Construction Safety

Construction safety is a set of certain rules and regulations that should be strictly followed in all construction firms to avoid any kind of mishap from occurring in the construction areas.

These safety norms help to maintain a safe environment in a construction area. Though safety measures should be taken by each individual working in a construction firm but a safety unit should be there in each construction firm to look out to the matters of safety, appropriately.

These days, there are many safety audit companies, which conducts a regular check on the safety measures of a construction company. These companies make sure that the construction firms take proper safety measures so that the workers remain safe and secure.

Construction safety is the steps followed by employees to protect workers working in hazardous environment.

The five major hazards at work place are

  1. Falls, Slip, Trip
  2. Chemical Hazards
  3. Fire Hazards
  4. Electrical Hazards
  5. Repetitive Motion Injury

We need to prepare a risk assessment and implement it before we start working.

  1. Identify the hazards
  2. Decide who might be harmed and how
  3. Evaluate the risks and decide on control measures
  4. Record your findings and implement them
  5. Review your assessment and update if necessary.

Falls from height are the main causes of fatal accidents in the construction industries. The risks related to work at height may be subdivided in two groups:

(1) those that may arise from the fall of workers, and (2) those that may arise from the fall of objects onto those working below.

These risks may arise at most construction sites. The consequences are generally more severe the greater the falling height. Falls generally occur from unguarded edges or openings at height, roof work, through fragile materials, into excavations, from ladders, from temporary platforms like tower scaffolds, from places of work on an existing facility and on stairways.

Safety culture should start from the top. The CEO of the company, as well as the senior management team, should lead, practice, and embrace the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) programs wholeheartedly.
