How to perform CPR step by step

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Cardio = Heart

Pulmonary = Lungs

Resuscitate = Revive

Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation = Reviving The Heart & Lungs

CPR is a technique that is used in an emergency when a person’s heart has stopped beating & also their breathing has stopped.

Patient Assessment

If you find someone collapsed, you can use the method

“DR ABC “

Keep calm & check ‘DR ABC”

Danger

Ensure there are no dangers or harm to yourself & other bystanders or the casualty.

Do you have to Ask yourself that Why has the casualty collapsed?

Are there any hazards?

Am I at risk?

Danger could include – Electricity, Moving Vehicle, Fire, etc.

You have to Only help if it is safe to do so.

Response

Try & wake the causality up – are they responsive?

Kneel by his/her head, shout in both ears & tap them on the shoulders

If no response then the casualty is unconscious

If the casualty does not wake up they are unconscious

This is an emergency

Try & attract attention to yourself/the casualty by shouting with help.

However, do not leave the casualty.

Airway (Head Tilt & Chin Lift)

The airway is the tube that takes air from the nose/mouth to the lungs.

When a casualty is unconscious, their tongue can fall backward & block their airway.

This can cause an obstruction & stop the casualty from breathing to open someone’s airway, place one hand on their forehead & tilt their head backward.

Then place two fingers on the bony part of their chin & lift it.

Breathing

Keep your hands on the persons head/chin

Place/keep your cheek above their mouth & look at their chest

Look, Listen & Feel they’re for regular breathing for up to 10 seconds

Irregular shallow gasps are not normal breathing = Agonal breathing = Not breathing

Call An Ambulance

If a casualty is not breathing normally in that case call an emergency ambulance immediately.

If a bystander or someone is available then they can call the ambulance for you

Ensure you have to tell the operator that you have an unconscious or non-breathing casualty.
